Firing Up for Fall 2015

Last year (yes, I know it’s been a while since my last post) I echoed Dr. Francisco Rodriguez’s words and encouraged the Central Valley to “bring it,” and we certainly have!  The year was filled with professional learning around institutional change, bringing new approaches to many colleges, and this summer bodes well for the new academic year.  Already Central Valley colleges are hard at work preparing to make that institutional change at their college.

First, CV colleges spent three days (June 12 – 14) working at thinking through and building up their acceleration classes, in both math and English.  Represented were College of the Sequoias, Bakersfield College, Modesto Junior College, During this intense weekend of training, faculty worked through roadblocks and challenges of starting and teaching an accelerated class. We are scheduled to meet again in September for some more amazing and intensive work.  You can always learn more about the California Acceleration Project (CAP) by visiting their website here.

In addition to CAP, 3CSN’s entire network is gearing up for a year full of professional learning opportunities.  We know that you all are so busy doing great work on your campuses, but remember to put time in your schedule to network with others from all over the state working just like you.  I know that I always appreciate the regenerating energy I get from being around people passionate about teaching!  You can see all of 3CSN’s planned events for the year here in our Save-the-Date flyer:

Remember, too, to make special room for this year’s Strengthening Student Success Conference, next summer’s BSILI, and this spring’s redesigned LINKS!  I look forward to seeing you there. Until then, have a wonderful start to your semester!
